Dice patterns

We are learning to count on to solve addition problems. This means we hold one number in our heads and then count on the rest. It can be tricky to know when to stop...
We are practising solving problems like this.

Jamie has 18 lollies and Charlotte gives her 4 more. Then Zoe gives her 6 more. Now how many lollies does Jamie have?
We start with 18 becasue it is the biggest number and we hold the 18 in our head. Then we use what we know about dice patterns to help count on 6 more, then 4 more.
...19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24
...25, 26, 27, 28
Jamie has 28 lollies. Lucky Jamie!

Charlotte, Zoe and Jamie are using dice patterns to help solve add-on problems.
